Mercier leads NC to Skyline title
North Central junior Brody Mercier carded an 81 to place second at the Skyline Conference golf tournament this week at Young’s Golf Course in Iron County.
Mercier was joined by two Jets teammates in the top 10 as North Central won the boys meet Wednesday with a score of 355.
Bark River-Harris was second at 364, North Dickinson placed third at 369 and Norway finished fourth at 380. Forest Park placed eighth in the 10-team field.
Owen Kuehnau, a Stephenson senior, took medalist honors with a 77.
Norway was paced by junior Owen Baij with an 83, good for fifth. North Central’s Nathan Pipkorn, a sophomore, shot an 84 to rank 6th and North Dickinson junior Tyler Fleming placed seventh with an 87.
North Central senior Alexander Pipkorn had an 88 to finish ninth, tied with North Dickinson junior Richard Haney.
Other golfers breaking 110 included North Dickinson junior Brady Jungwirth, 93; Norway senior Evan Moyer, 94; Norway senior Dallas Debernardi, 97; North Dickinson senior Mason Anderson, 101; North Central sophomore James Joseph, 102; North Central senior Abram Eichhorn, 103; Norway sophomore Eli Dube, 106; and Forest Park sophomore Noah Starr, 106.
In the Skyline Conference girls meet, Stephenson junior Cheyanne Palzewicz was the medalist with a 104. Norway’s Gracie Schiltz carded a 109 to place third.
Also finishing in the top 20 were North Dickinson senior Hailee Siegler, fifth with a 110; Forest Park sophomore Kallie Evers-Margoni, seventh with a 112; Norway junior Ella Wojtowicz, 16th with a 125; Norway freshman Emily Carlson, 19th with a 129; and North Dickinson sophomore Dalaney Steinbrecher, 20th with a 130.
Big Bay de Noc placed first in the girls meet with a 467, followed by Stephenson and Munising.
