Norway’s big innings lead to sweep

NORWAY — The Norway Knights posted four big offensive innings en route to defeating Bark River-Harris 14-2 in the first game and 16-1 in the second in Monday’s Skyline Central Conference doubleheader in Norway.

The Knights burst out to a lead in the opener with three runs in the first and then added 11 more in the third.

In the second game, Norway plated seven runs in the first, four in the second and five more in the fourth.

Offensive standouts in the first game included Kendall Burklund (two hits, three RBIs), Kara Stanchina (three hits, three runs scored, one RBI), Jordyn Moln (two hits, double, two RBIs), Lilly Tomlanovich (two RBIs), Emma Dube (RBI), Payton Paquette (RBI) and Tessa Castelaz (double).

Burklund pitched five innings and notched the win, allowing three hits, two earned runs and three walks with 11 strikeouts.

In the finale, Norway was led offensively by Emilee Marier, who finished with a triple and a double, four RBIs and three runs scored. Stanchina and Paquette added three runs driven in each, while Moln and Anna deBidart both logged two RBIs and a double.

Castelaz went 2 for 2 with a double and three runs scored. Tomlanovich belted a double and Dube smacked a double.

Stanchina posted the victory in the circle, pitching four innings with two hits allowed and no earned runs. The junior fanned six without issuing a walk.
