Powerful Gladstone sweeps KHS softball
GLADSTONE — The Kingsford Flivvers softball team’s trip to Gladstone Wednesday did not go well as the Braves dominated both games of the doubleheader, winning 9-2 in the opener and 12-2 in the finale.
Gladstone pitcher Tia Schone dominated in the circle, going 6 2/3 innings on the day without allowing a run or a hit. She struck out nine in 4 2/3 innings of the opener and fanned five in two innings in the nightcap.
The Braves scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning of the first game to break loose.
Kingsford sophomore Mya Brunswick suffered the loss, going 5 2/3 innings while allowing nine hits and six runs. She struck out five and walked one.
Jenna Viau collected an RBI for the Flivvers and Eden Janousek went 2 for 3.
In the finale, Gladstone plated five runs in the bottom of the second and another in the third to take control.
Reagan Cram started for Kingsford and took the loss. She allowed six earned runs and nine hits in four innings.
Grace Rice led Flivver hitters with two hits in two at bats.
The Flivvers struggled in the field as well, which led to four unearned runs in the opening game and six more in the second.
