West Iron teams place 3rd, 4th at Lake Linden track meet
LAKE LINDEN — Tanner Nordstrom and Bristol Shamion led the West Iron County track teams with an individual victory each at the Russ Laurin Invitational Thursday in Lake Linden.
Nordstrom, a junior, set a personal record to win the shot put in 46 feet, 6 inches, while Shamion, a freshman, also set a personal record of 4 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump.
In the girls team standings, the Wykons totaled 69.5 points to take third place.
The host Lakes won the event with 133.5 followed by Houghton with 120. After West Iron, Dollar Bay (69), Hancock (55), Painesdale-Jeffers (30), Chassell (25), Baraga (15) and Sacred Heart Catholic (3) rounded out the field.
In the boys team standings, West Iron placed fourth with 55 points. Houghton won the team trophy with 185.5 points while Lake Linden-Hubbell finished runner-up with 160. Dollar Bay took third with 63 points, Chassell wound up fifth with 38, Hancock placed sixth with 14.5 and Baraga finished sixth with 5.
The Wykon girls earned two second-place results and four thirds. Cheyenne Ritchie finished runner-up in the 100 (13.9 seconds) and the WIC 1600 relay team of Lily De Sousa, Grace Smith, Lacey Shamion and Eriana Sucholl placed second with a 4:45.8.
Bristol Shamion contributed thirds in the 200 (29.3) and the 100 hurdles (18.3). Additionally, the WIC 400 relay team (Ritchie, De Sousa, Lacey Shamion and Kaitlyn Smith in 58.1) and the 800-relay team (Lacey Shamion, Ritchie, Sucholl and Natalie Walsh in 2:05.6) each contributed third-place points.
For the Wykon boys, Seth Oberlin registered a second-place result in the 800 (2:19.4) and a third in the high jump (5-6), while Saul Kobussen wound up third in the 100 (12.4) and Alex Ghiggia took third in the shot put (41 feet).
West Iron’s 800 relay squad of Kobussen, Christian Robles, Paxton Sapalicio and Brady McDonald (1:45.9) also placed third.
