Wykon girls take Marcy Bracket Invite at Bessemer
BESSEMER — The West Iron County girls won four events on their way to the team championship at the Marcy Bracket Invitational on Thursday at Bessemer High School.
The Wykons finished with 117 points, in front of runner-up Ironwood at 90 and third-place L’Anse with 87.
Bristol Shamion topped West Iron’s effort with victories in the 100 hurdles (18.39 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (51.47).
The other two Wykon victories were relay wins. The 400-meter team of Cheyenne Ritchie, Lily De Sousa, Lacey Shamion and Kendall McDonald recorded a 56.13 to take that race.
Additionally, the WIC 800 relay squad of Ritchie, De Sousa, Shamion and Eriana Sucholl followed with a triumph in a time of 1:57.08.
Tanner Nordstrom topped the field in the boys shot put (44-feet, 1-inch) for the WIC boys lone win.
The Wykons finished fourth overall with 66 points. Ironwood won the boys event with 139.5 points.
