ASA Midwest Tour’s ‘Stars and Cars’ headed to Norway Speedway

Dalton Zehr, formerly of Menominee and now of Port Orange, Fla., was the ASA Midwest Tour’s 2024 Knights of Oktoberfest feature winner at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, Wis. He’s one of the three former Midwest Tour champions slated to race Saturday at Norway Speedway.

NORWAY — After a decade away, the “Stars and Cars” of the ASA Midwest Tour return to Norway Speedway on Saturday night for the Norway 100 presented by Weimer Bearing and Transmission.

Three Midwest Tour champions, a NASCAR Truck champion, five former Norway Track champions, a host of Tour winners and five former Stateline Challenge winners are all part of a mix of Super Late Model drivers looking to win at the third mile oval.

Of the three former Midwest Tour champions entered for this weekend, Dalton Zehr has the most laps and success at Norway. The 2013 track champion is a two-time Stateline Challenge winner and has already nabbed one weekly win in 2025. The Tour’s last visit to the U.P. came prior to both Casey Johnson’s and Gabe Sommers’ Rookie of the Year seasons. Johnson, a three-time Tour champion started the season strong by winning the Joe Shear Classic. Two-time and defending Tour champion Sommers currently sits 23 markers behind Johnson in the point standings.

The history books are split four races apiece for the U.P. contingent and Midwest Tour travelers. Current point leader and 2024 track champion Joey Pontbriand will be joined by 2023 Norway champ Scott Stanchina as well as two-time track champion and past Stateline winner Kris Kelly. Kelly wheeled his way to a top ten last summer at Wisconsin International during his most recent Tour start.

Escanaba’s Joey Stankowicz has also thrown his hat in the ring representing the local teams. Additionally, 2024 Stateline winner Andy Monday has filed his entry from the Fox River Valley.

Another interesting driver to watch is Justin Mondeik. Mondeik is a three-time Stateline winner, was the 2022 Norway Speedway track champion and just last month added another Norway win to his resume. The Midwest Tour touring star has found much success across the region, having also won at Slinger Super Speedway this season. The former State Park Speedway and Golden Sands Speedway champion has three Tour wins including last year at Elko Speedway.

Two Sauters are set to take center stage Saturday in Norway. Penn Sauter will be piloting his family’s legendary No. 5 during his rookie Super Late Model campaign. Meanwhile, his dad Johnny Sauter, the 2016 NASCAR Truck champion, will be behind the wheel of four-time Norway Speedway champion Gene Coleman’s iconic No. 119. Johnny Sauter has seven Midwest Tour wins to his credit and the former ASA Challenge Series champion is also a former Stateline Challenge winner.

Much like Zehr and Mondeik, Levon VanDerGeest has already visited Norway Speedway Victory Lane this season. The central Wisconsin driver looks to pick up career tour win number one on Saturday night. Likewise, former Tundra Super Late Model Champion Riley Stenjem is also seeking that elusive first tour win after numerous strong showings.

One driver that captured his first Tour checkered flag is Max Kahler. The former Big 8 Series champion and National Short Track championships winner bested a star studded field in last August’s Jim Sauter Classic 200 at Dells Raceway Park. Those three will be joined by Wisconsin Weekly Winners Jerry Mueller, Joseph Scholze and Rayce Haase.

The newest winner on the Midwest Tour, 27-year-old Jevin Guralski will be one of the young guns to watch on Saturday night at Norway Speedway. The youngster passed Casey Johnson on the high side last month at Jefferson and never looked back, winning in dominant fashion.

Other young challengers include Big 8 Series and Tundra Rookie of the Year Mitch Haver, 2022 Hawkeye Downs champ Kody King, Midwest Truck and Late Model Stock winner Joe Valento and 2023 Hawkeye champion and Midwest Truck standout Bryce Miller.
