IM Coleman earns LL Major title

Gladstone to host UP District 10 tournament starting Saturday

NORWAY — Iron Mountain Coleman Engineering defeated Kingsford Timber Products in Little League baseball action Friday at Marion Park to claim the area’s Major Division title for players ages 11-12.

The championship game went to the wire, with Coleman prevailing 7-6.

The Iron Mountain squad was part of a local 15-team league with players from Kingsford, Norway, Iron River, Crystal Falls and Hermansville, along with Florence and Niagara, Wis.

Coleman ended the regular season with an 11-3 record and entered the postseason as the No. 2 seed. Coleman won June 16 against Florence Systems Control, on Tuesday against Kingsford Thomas Theatre Group and on Wednesday against Niagara Bink’s Coca-Cola, leading up to Friday’s championship game.

Kingsford Timber Products advanced with wins over Kingsford Pro Tech, Vulcan Lions and Crystal Falls Slivensky Hardware.

Coleman ended its season with 15-3 overall record.

All-star teams in the Major Division from the Iron Mountain, Norway and Kingsford areas will now be part of the Michigan District 10 tournament hosted by Gladstone beginning Saturday. Other teams in the field are Gladstone, Schaffer and Trenary-based Tri-County.

In a change from past years, there are no area pre-district tournaments in 2025. Kingsford will host the District 10 tournament for the Minor Division (ages 8-10) beginning July 12 at Quinnesec Park.

In softball, Escanaba will host the Minors tournament beginning July 7 while Iron Mountain is the host for the Majors tournament starting Friday.
