IM to host Little League District 10 softball tournament
IRON MOUNTAIN — Little League All-Star softball teams from Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Norway, Gladstone and Escanaba will compete in the District 10 Majors (ages 11-12) tournament this weekend at North Side Field.
The event is hosted by Iron Mountain Little League. It opens at 5 p.m. Friday with Kingsford playing Norway.
Saturday’s action in the double-elimination tournament begins at 10 a.m. with Gladstone facing Escanaba, followed by Iron Mountain playing the Kingsford-Norway winner at noon.
The tournament continues with two more Saturday games and a pair of loser’s bracket games at 10 a.m. and noon Sunday.
The championship is slated for 5:30 p.m. Monday. If the team that comes through the loser’s bracket wins the Monday game, a final championship contest is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Game times are subject to change due to weather delays.
North Dickinson R & G Masonry captured the championship in the area’s recently completed Major Division season, which included 11 teams from Dickinson and Iron counties, along with Florence, Wis., and Niagara, Wis.
R & G defeated top-seeded Kingsford U.P. Color 10-4 for the league tournament title. U.P. Color had the league’s best regular season record at 14-2 while North Dickinson entered the tournament at 13-3.
Additional volunteers are needed to help staff this weekend’s District 10 All-Star tournament. More information is available on the Iron Mountain Little League’s Facebook page.
