Knights will make return trip to state baseball tournament

East Lansing, here they come.

Norway made quick work of Gaylord St. Mary today, winning 15-0 in three innings to advance for a second straight year to the MHSAA Division 4 state baseball tournament.

The Knights eliminated Gaylord St. Mary in the state quarterfinals after defeating Harbor Springs Harbor Light Christian 12-2 for the Region 25 championship.

Today’s games were played at Rudyard Township Park.

Norway will face Portland St. Patrick in an East Lansing state semifinal at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time Friday at Michigan State University’s McLain Stadium.

The state championship is at 5 p.m. Eastern time Saturday, June 14.

The Knights a year ago reached the state tournament for the first time in program history. They won a semifinal 3-2 against Marine City Cardinal Mooney before falling 10-0 in the state championship game to Beal City.

This year’s other qualifiers for the state tournament are Plymouth Christian Academy and Petersburg Summerfield.

In softball, Norway lost to Bessemer 3-1 in eight innings in a regional semifinal today in Ishpeming. Bessemer went on to defeat Lake Linden-Hubbell 2-0 for the regional championship.
