Wood named NLC Player of the Year

Allison Wood
Three Lakes-Phelps took home the Northern Lakes Conference softball championship, but Florence’s Allison Wood was selected as the conference’s Player of the Year.
Wood, a senior pitcher, joined three Florence teammates on the NLC first team — juniors Sami DeMuri and Ashlyn VanDenHeuvel and freshman Miley VanDenHeuvel.
Florence senior Aurora McCarthy earned a spot on the second team, while fellow senior Audrey Franz received honorable mention.
During the 2025 campaign, Wood broke several Florence records for a single season as well for a career.
The list includes 16 strikeouts in a game, 178 strikeouts in a season and 402 career strikeouts. Wood pitched four shutouts this year, giving her nine for her career.
She collected 14 wins in 2025, including a no-hitter May 16 against Goodman-Pembine. Wood also had a no-hitter in a 2023 game against Gwinn.
Florence finished 8-2 in the Northern Lake Conference, just behind 9-1 Three Lakes-Phelps. The LadyCats were 14-8 overall.
The Northern Lakes Conference first team also included Jolie Seidel, a junior from Goodman-Pembine. Three Goodman-Pembine seniors earned honorable mention — Karma Hartwick, Laynee Dwight and Ava Geldmeyer.
Other members of the NLC first team were Ella Spears, Haylee Barnekow, Lily Gleason and Malia Szews of Three Lakes-Phelps; Holly Gilligan, Amaris Gilligan and Allison Albrecht of Laona-Wabeno; and Lauren Littleton of Crandon.
