A common loon pauses between dives at Six Mile Lake in north Dickinson County. The loon was among the most recent avian arrivals this past week, although the return of cooler weather has slowed migration — the birds can handle the cold but the air flow from the north is less than ideal. Still, the spring migrants should continue to trickle in, even if April is no longer cooperating in terms of making it a faster, easier journey.
