Northern Exposure XXV winners announced

ESCANABA — The Bonifas Arts Center has announced the winners of the Northern Exposure XXV annual art competition in the Upper Peninsula.

The $500 first-place Placement Award went to Brian Burroughs for “Our Imperiled Incubation,” with the $300 second prize to Carol Irving for “B&W Obsession” and $250 third place to Taimur Cleary for “Burn (Off and Up).” The contest is sponsored by the Bonifas Arts Center, Crawford Funeral Home, East Ludington Gallery, Frame Crafters and Michigamme Moonshine Art Gallery.

Other awards included:

— Media Awards: Tracy Anderson for “Night Watch,” sponsored by the Escanaba Daily Press and the Marquette Monthly; Michael Olson for “The Blacksmith’s Hands,” sponsored by The Daily News in Iron Mountain; Paul Nelson for “Discrete Observer,” sponsored by Munising News; Paul Arno Rose for “Contemplative Moment,” sponsored by the Manistique Pioneer Tribune; JoAnn Deuel Shelby for “Summer’s End,” sponsored by upperpeninsula.biz/ WYKX/WDBC and ABC TV 10; and Ben Bohnsack for “Seney Wildlife Refuge: Ponds, Marshes and Forests” and Judith Hemeleski for “Mr. 2 Time Machine,” both sponsored by WLUC-TV6 and FOX UP.
