IRON RIVER — Aspirus Iron River Hospital and Clinics has begun work on a new 24,000-square-foot medical clinic in Iron River.
Nearly 150 people attended a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday at the Iron River hospital campus. The $8 million clinic is expected to open in spring 2018.
“This will provide a huge impact for our community,” Aspirus Iron River Hospital CEO Connie Koutouzos said. “Not only is this a significant example of our growth as Aspirus, it’s a strong indication of Aspirus’ commitment to Iron County.”
The new two-story Aspirus Iron River Clinic will consolidate all Iron River clinics into one location for patients. The clinic will feature primary and specialty care as well as rehabilitation services such as physical and occupational therapy.
Patients will have access to full-scope family medicine, from pediatric to geriatric care, women’s health, diabetes care, oncology, orthopedics, imaging, lab and more.
“The team is really excited about what our new clinic will do to improve the patient experience and continue to provide the highest quality health care in our communities,” said Robin Matchett, director of medical clinics.
Regionally, the Aspirus Iron River Clinic follows other major expansions within the Aspirus system in the Upper Peninsula, such as the new Aspirus Ironwood Clinic, the Aspirus Ontonagon Emergency expansion and the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital expansion.
“No other health care organization is coming close to investing in the western Upper Peninsula like Aspirus,” said Chuck Nelson, Aspirus Upper Peninsula Regional CEO.
Also involved in the project are Miron Construction, PRA Architects, and FA Industrial Services Inc. in Iron River.
