DUNBAR, Wis. – Northland International University in Dunbar will become an extension campus of Boyce College and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary effective Aug. 1, 2015.
The board of trustees of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, which is located in Louisville, Ky., unanimously approved a resolution to that effect earlier this week.
“The Northland board is thrilled with this action as Northland becomes a part of Southern Seminary and its bold stand for the unalterable truth and a clear understanding of training the next generation of servant-leaders,” Northland Board of Trustees Chairman Ken McMaster said in a press release. “As an alumnus of Northland, I am thrilled for this day, and I am excited to watch this union carry on the rich legacy that both schools have built.”
According to information on the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary’s website, Northland International University will become the first campus outside of Louisville for Boyce College, which is the seminary’s undergraduate school. In addition, the Dunbar campus will provide a location for youth camps, church planting training, faculty retreats, and other events.
“We are thankful that God, in His grace and providential kindness, has brought about this incorporation of Northland into the Southern family,” added Northland International University President Daniel Patz. “This is a gift from Northland to the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, but really, I feel almost even more so it is a gift to us in order for this legacy and this mission to continue; it is the greatest mission in the world, to bring the gospel to the ends of the earth.”
Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Senior Vice President Dan Dumas will be the featured speaker at Northland International University’s upcoming Vision Casting Banquet at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain.
The event is invite-only.
Northland International University was founded by Paul Patz in 1958 as a mission camp. It became Northland Baptist Bible Institute in 1976, and then Northland Baptist Bible College in 1977. Throughout the next two decades, the college grew with a broader range of majors and a graduate school.
The school changed its name to Northland International University in 2009.
