Carpenter Avenue ‘road diet’

The city of Iron Mountain will seek public comment at 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall regarding a potential traffic lane reduction on a portion of Carpenter Avenue. More information on the “road diet” plan is available at cityofironmountain.com.

Because the Michigan Department of Transportation is resurfacing Carpenter Avenue later this year, the conversion could be done at no cost to the city. The area being considered is a nine-block stretch from Ludington Street south to H Street. Carpenter Avenue could be converted from four lanes to three, providing a new center turn lane and the addition of wide shoulders.

Road diet information is also available at https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/road_diets/.
