DICSA earns high marks in state assessment report

IRON MOUNTAIN – The Dickinson Iron Community Services Agency is a non-profit Community Action agency serving primarily Dickinson and Iron counties through numerous programs designed to help people with a variety of needs.

For instance, DICSA offers homemaking and personal care services in the home; delivers meals to homebound people; weatherizes homes; offers an adult day care center; operates a transportation service; provides boxes of food; pays fuel/utility bills; helps veterans and other homeless find housing; and much more.

Since DICSA receives grant funds to operate its programs, it is also highly regulated. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Community Action and Economic Opportunity recently provided DICSA with its State Technical Assessment Report. The STAR examines common Community Action factors to determine an overall score.

DICSA received 4.59 stars out of a possible 5 stars on its report, scoring “excellent” or “good” in 8 of 9 categories. The categories evaluate everything from financial management systems to leadership and board compliance.

Additionally, the MDHHS monitored DICSA on nationally recognized organizational standards, of which all 58 standards were met by DICSA.
