‘Christmas in The Wizarding World’ extended to two nights

IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Dickinson Area Community Foundation has extended its "Christmas in The Wizarding World" fundraiser to two nights after the event sold out in 2018, said Melissa Wentarmini, DACF director of finance and market.

The one-of-a-kind "Harry Potter"-themed event takes place Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18 and 19, at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served at 7 p.m. each evening. Prize winners will be announced at 7:45 p.m.

Greeted by more than 1,000 floating candles, Pine Grove will be transformed into Hogwarts for attendees.

Fans this year will be able to experience more magical surprises, including new attractions and new characters.

Those slated to attend include Professor Quirrell, Bellatrix LeStrange, Ollivander, Professor Snape, Voldemort, Gilderoy Lockhart, Madame Pomfrey; members of the Weasley and Dursley families; and many more.

Attendees will receive a Marauder's Map to guide them to various locations. Kids and adults can enjoy various areas such as Ollivander's Wand Shop, Honeydukes Candy Shop, a Transfiguration booth, and the Leaky Cauldron.

"You will feel like you stepped right into the wizarding world," Wentarmini said.

Guests also will be treated to a wizard-inspired seated meal. A vegetarian option is available on request.

Actors from the Dickinson County Community Theatre and Friends of Braumart once again will pose as prominent characters from the Harry Potter series throughout the evening.

Last year, "Potterheads" came from across the Upper Peninsula to support DACF's mini-grant program, which benefits many local organizations and activities.

Only about 100 tickets remain "and they are selling fast," Wentarmini said.

Tickets are $60, with a portion of that being tax-deductible. They can be purchased at www.dickinsonareacf.org.
