Teams from 15 countries expected for ski jumps

IRON MOUNTAIN -- At least 15 countries are expected to participate in the 2019 Bellin Health Continental Cup tournament Feb. 8 through 10 at Giant Pine Mountain in Iron Mountain.
Skiers from the United States, Austria, Germany, Canada, Norway, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Poland, France, Switzerland, Romania, Japan, Hungary, China and Great Britain all will be represented in the competition.
Open training for skiers is set to start at noon Thursday, Feb. 7.
The annual Meet The Skiers/Business After Hours will be 5 p.m. Feb. 7 at Pine Mountain Resort, allowing the public to mingle with the athletes, coaches and officials, and even get autographs.
The event is free, but reservations are requested by calling 906-774-2002. A cash bar is offered. Official training begins at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 8, followed by the first round of Continental Cup jumping at 1 p.m. Feb. 9. Trial rounds begin at 11 a.m., with the opening ceremony set for 12:15 p.m.
Events Feb. 10 begin with trial rounds at 11 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony at 12:15 p.m. and competition at 1 p.m.
The schedule can be changed depending on weather and conditions, said Susie Fox, correspondence secretary of the Kiwanis Ski Club.
Discounted pre-sale admission buttons are available at numerous locations throughout Dickinson County and at www.kiwanisskiclub.org. Pre-sale prices were $30 for adults and $25 for students ages 11 to 17; those age 10 and younger are admitted free.
Gate prices starting Friday, Feb. 8, are $35 for adults, $30 for ages 11 to 17.
Although plenty of free parking is available, private spaces can be reserved as well. Spots to the right side of the landing hill looking up are $70 for 16 feet. For more information on reserving space, call Dan Freeman at 906-282-4179.
