NORWAY -- The Norway City Council on Monday approved the annual Easter Egg Hunt set for April 20 in Marion Park.
The Saturday event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is important for the community, City Manager Ray Anderson said.
The council thanked the many volunteers -- especially the Kleikamp family -- for their hard work organizing the event, in which thousands of eggs are hidden in the park for children to find.
"It gets bigger and bigger every year," council member Scott Popp said.
"Any time you bring people into town, it's good," council member Lee Meneghini added.
In other business, the council:
-- Approved accountant Scott Kenney handling the annual city audit for next three years. Kenney's services will cost the city $20,400, $20,700 and $21,000 in the fiscal years of 2019, 2020 and 2021, respectively.
-- Authorized spending $5,590 for 1,000 feet of 5-inch-diameter fire hose for the Norway Volunteer Fire Department.
-- Allowed a change order request by Miron Construction for repairs on generating unit No. 4 at the Sturgeon Falls Hydroelectric Facility. Miscellaneous parts needed to complete gear box and bearing repairs can be purchased for up to $22,796, bringing the total project cost to $162,586.
-- Agreed to install temperature probes in generating unit No. 4 at the Sturgeon Falls Hydroelectric Facility while it is being rebuilt. The work will be done by FDS Engineering and Electrical for no more than $8,875.
-- Will have B&B Electric do work that includes installing a new heater at the wastewater treatment plant for $3,676.
-- Heard from Ryan Soucy, a community planner for the Central Upper Peninsula Planning And Development Regional Commission, on an updated Public Participation Plan, a necessary part of the city's master plan. A more detailed presentation will be scheduled.
