NORWAY -- Students from area schools will participate in two Wisconsin School Music Association concert music festivals hosted by Norway High School.

Instrumental ensembles will perform Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Concerts for choral ensembles will be held Wednesday, March 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

During the festivals, which are free and open to the public, each school's concert ensemble groups will perform before a panel of adjudicators while students from other schools listen in as part of their own learning experience.

The festival will draw concert bands and choirs from a number of area schools, including Calumet High School, Central Middle School, Gwinn High School, Houghton High School, Jeffers High School, Kingsford High School, Kingsford Middle School, Niagara High School, Niagara Middle School, North Dickinson County High School, Norway High School, Pembine High School, Republic-Michigamme High School, Vulcan Middle School, West Iron County High School and Westwood High School.

Kaitlyn Ware, music director from Norway High School, will serve as the festival manager.

"WSMA is proud of the quality music education experiences we support teachers in providing for their students," said WSMA Executive Director Laurie Fellenz. "Our long-standing festival programs encourage well-rounded musicians who develop a deeper understanding through performance preparation that culminates in comprehensive feedback from a qualified adjudicator. This opportunity, coupled with observing and listening to peer performances, is invaluable for musical growth,"

WSMA music festivals support school music programs as part of a comprehensive education by encouraging the study of quality music literature; motivating students to prepare and perform to the best of their abilities; improving students' understanding of music literature and concepts and providing a performance assessment to improve individual and group achievement.
