Boys basketball: Norway takes it slow, beats Nordics

By Adam Niemi 2 min read

FELCH -- Norway slowed down the pace in a 36-31 win over North Dickinson on Monday.

The Knights (3-5) focused on ball possession and finding open shots three days after falling to Bark River-Harris in a hectic back and forth game with a fast tempo both ways.

"We slowed down the pace and took good shots. We took care of the basketball tonight," Norway head coach Jeff Gallino said. "That was nice to see. It was a good team effort. ND has some nice players that were a little off tonight. We will have to be prepared to cover the three when we play them again in a couple weeks."

In a slow-moving game without the number of offensive opportunities that come with a faster tempo, the Nordics struggled shooting the ball and never overcame it. North Dickinson shot 10 of 47 on the night.

"You're not going to win a whole lot shooting 21 percent," North Dickinson head coach Chris Mattson said. "We had plenty of shots inside. We had plenty of shots outside. Nobody played well offensively."

Kody Hendricks led Norway with 11 points.

Matthew Bruette led the Nordics with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

"I thought we rebounded well against them," Mattson said. "Our turnover number was low -- so was theirs. They just made a few more buckets than we did. We've been getting to the line lately. They didn't commit too many fouls."

North Dickinson JV won 51-48.

North Dickinson hosts Kingsford on Thursday, while Norway visits Big Bay de Noc.
