Boys basketball: Jets escape Norway with 42-40 win

NORWAY -- Carter Holle's basket in the final seconds lifted North Central past Norway 42-40 in Skyline Central Conference boys basketball Friday.
A Norway turnover gave North Central possession with 29 seconds left in the game. The Jets then played for the final shot.
"We jumped way out of position on the last play," said Norway coach Jeff Gallino. "We just lost our assignment at the end."
The Jets (12-4, 5-3), who rallied to beat the Knights in December, trailed 36-26 after three quarters Friday. Norway held North Central to four points in the third quarter and the roles were reversed for the fourth.
"We were able to get a nice lead to start the fourth," Gallino said. "Tonight we were just unable to sustain the lead. We took a couple forced shots and they came back to win."
The Knights (7-10, 4-5) took a 40-38 lead with 1:40 left on two of Trey Doda's game-high 17 points. The Jets answered 20 seconds later with a Cole Timblin bucket.
"Typical Norway-North Central game, right down to the wire," Gallino said. "It's tough and the boys are disappointed. They wanted this one."
Hendricks added 14 points for the Knights. Griffin Johnson paced the Jets with 14.
"Our effort was great," Gallino said. "We are going to stay positive."
Norway visits Superior Central on Monday and North Central travels to Munising on Tuesday.
Nolan Amundson scored 13 points and Gannon Bray added 11 as Norway's junior varsiy topped North Central 49-38. Trenton Naser led the Jets with 12.
