New Zealand hunt

Maki recommends New Zealand for hunters and tourists alike as “beautiful, beautiful, gorgeous” country.
A ram — featuring twin 1 1/2 curls — was taken on flatter terrain from about 175 yards.

Hunting in early February on the southern end of New Zealand’s North Island, John “Jack” Maki of Breitung Township harvested a 36-point red stag. The stag, taken with a steep downhill shot of 260 yards, has a 55-inch spread and a preliminary Safari Club International score of 462.

Guided by Mountain Hunters outfitters, Maki used a 7mm Weatherby Magnum Mark V.
