MENOMINEE — The Communities that Care Coalition of Marinette and Menominee Counties, under the Menominee County Intermediate School District Prevention Services, has been selected to receive a $125,000 federal grant from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy under the Drug-Free Communities Support Program. KINGSFORD — Richard Berlinski, Alvin “Dutch” Cummings and Debbie Poulson will be the third class of inductees into the Breitung Township Schools Achievement Hall of Fame, district officials announced. They will be inducted during a luncheon Friday, Oct. 9, with a social time beginning at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain. Reservations are due by Friday. UP jobless rate in August falls to 5%
IRON MOUNTAIN — The Upper Peninsula’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dipped to 5% in August, down from 5.2% in July and 5.4% a year ago, according to data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget. DTMB data showed 6,700 unemployed in the U.P. in August, down by 300 from July. The size of the region’s civilian labor force fell to 133,100 in August, down by 800 over the month.
