KINGSFORD — A bright sunny Monday morning greeted the Golden Kers as they came together at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. The first to arrive are the faithful workers, hauling out tables chairs. While the coffee perks away out come the plates, cups, napkins and of course the songbooks. These Golden K members enjoy their music almost as much as the doughnuts and conversation.
As the rest of the membership arrives, Gilbert Engel as chairman for March, greets the guest, rings the bell and the “Pledge of Allegiance” and the singing of “God Bless America” begins the meeting.
Lois Outcelt got the group singing “You Are My Sunshine,” “Yankee Doodle Dandy” and “Ain’t We Got Fun” and fun there was with Lois leading this group – acappella — makes one appreciate those piano players who volunteer their time and talent with us. The Welcome Song greeted guest speaker, Allan Perla, who must have enjoyed the singing as he had a big smile.
Happy Birthday wishes to George Pera, March 23; Lorraine Jacobs, March 25; and Walter Jensen, March 27 and a very Happy Anniversary to John and Pat Corson. Don Sorenson was a happy man picking up his winnings from the 50/50 drawing.
Other happy moments were shared from members. Happy to see snow birds coming back. Happy to have Sue LeDuc play for the group when she can. Lois is happy her one and only granddaughter pitches for the University of Minnesota-Duluth at spring break in Florida. And Aggie Cavaiani’s great-grandson Connor Hanson, student at Woodland, came in first place for Reading Olympics and will be competing in the District Championship.
As program chairman, Dr. Paul Jacobs, introduced our guest speaker Allan Perla, sales and purchasing representative for Miller Products and Supply. As the Business has changed ownership over the years the name has also changed. Once owned by “Buck” Miller and was known for their cement blocks, the company maintains the Miller name, however it is not just about cement blocks anymore. The business has expanded to a larger employment of about 30 employees. As the cement block business was a seasonal — summer only — the Miller Products and Supply Company works year round.
They have a well educated staff to help with any building need you may incur. Landscaping, wet basements, muddy camp roads, soil corrosion or weed control. They have the expertise to solve your problem areas and/or help beautify your camp and home. They have the materials you may need and some new innovated supplies that will surprise you. Perla assured his audience you have a need — he has or will get you the necessary help you require. Stop in, look around, there is a display outside the building open 24 hours. The materials they use are eco-friendly. They are easy to find off U.S. 2 North in Iron Mountain.
Next time you are in a parking lot with those light standards whose bases are a bit roundish and very yellow, take a moment to ponder what holds them up. Perla can tell you. Working on projects with M J Electric, Miller Supply has produced large “cages” that go down many feet into the ground–filled with cement and re-bar. If one ever has the misfortune to misjudge your car and park near one you can understand why it does not budge.
Miller Products and Supply cover a wide range of materials that are priced comparatively. Their products are available year round for any replacements. You can be confident colors and materials will match. Perla and his staff are ready to answer any questions, help solve your problem and get you the best quality help available to get the job done.
The Golden Throats will not be singing on Wednesday for the Month of March.
Golden K March 27 program will be with Lois Outcelt, chairperson bringing Irisa Wallner and some of her music students. All programs begin at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome.
Dr. Paul Jacobs left the group with this “Thought for the Day,” the greatest gift you can give to others is yourself, your time, your attention, your respect and your love.
