IRON MOUNTAIN — High school sweethearts, Dennis and Susan (Hingst) Wilson celebrated their 50th anniversary on Sept. 10, 2017.

They were married one month before Dennis was deployed to Vietnam to serve his tour of duty as a paratrooper in the 173rd Airborne Brigade in the central highlands.

Susan continued to attend Michigan State University and graduated with a degree in elementary education. She is a retired teacher from the Niagara Public Schools.

Dennis became a respiratory therapist after returning from Vietnam and worked at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital and the Oscar G. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.

Originally from lower Michigan, the pair have called the Upper Peninsula their home for the last 45 years and have raised their three sons in Kingsford. They are the proud parents of Paul (Karen), Todd (Margie), and Erik (Stephanie) and the loving grandparents of Paige, Cierra, Maria, Grace, Tess, Lydia, Matthew, Lukas and Samantha.

Dennis and Susan acknowledges the staff of the Community Living Center at the Oscar G. Johnson Veterans Hospital where Dennis currently resides for assisting with their party. They are grateful for the wonderful care Dennis receives.
