KINGSFORD — Chairman Bill Roberts opened the Golden K meeting Monday with strong support of those present.

With Alice Derwinski on the piano and Don Pedo directing, our vocal cords got an early morning test by singing some “old favorites” including “Tumbling Tumbleweeds,” sung by Gene Autry in the 1930s and Marty Robbins in later years and “The Whiffenpoof Song” made famous by a group of students from Yale in 1908.

Chairman recognized birthdays and anniversaries this week. Gene Lindstrom had the winning ticket for the “pot of gold.”

Gene Henry, a recent new member of GK, gave an interesting and philosophical account of his life with words of wisdom and reminders from his father and many historical figures such as Benjamin Franklin and Abraham Lincoln.

Henry reminded everyone that we each have a story to tell and encouraged us to share them at future meetings.

The members/guests Christmas party will be at Recreation Lanes on Monday, Dec. 10. Cocktails will be from 5 to 6 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner and entertainment. Members are encouraged to invite potential new members to the party. Reservations must be made and paid for by Monday, Dec. 3.

The annual Christmas party for area special needs children will be on Monday, Dec. 10. Santa Claus will be there.
