KINGSFORD — Patriotism, gratitude, memories were very much on the minds and in hearts as chairman for the month of November, Bill Roberts, opened the Golden K meeting.
Patriotic songs and stories were the theme for the day. Guests, birthdays and anniversaries were recognized with song.
Roberts gave this thought for the day: “I know that I’m old enough to know better — but I’m still young enough to do it anyway.”
Tammy Juul, executive director of the Dickinson Area Community Foundation, presented a $250 check to Golden K to help defray expenses for shirts members wear at different functions, such as the Golden Throats who sing at nursing homes and volunteers who offer their time at other events sponsored by the club.
Members who served in various branches of the military were recognized and spoke of experiences here and abroad and how it affected their lives. As the saying goes, “You had to be there to appreciate and understand the experience.”
Members all left the meeting and program with more admiration and respect for those who have served and are currently serving the country.
