Dinner theater shows at the Island Resort
HARRIS — The Island Resort and Casino, in cooperation with Players De Noc, will bring a Dinner Theater double feature to the Convention Center on Thursday, Aug. 22, featuring “Take Five” and “Afternoon at Tavern MacTavish.”
“Take Five”: Imagine you are an actor on opening night trying to perform on a set that isn’t completed.
Then one actor doesn’t show up, a man from the audience uses your stage phone to argue with his wife, the props either don’t work or are missing, the lighting and sound cues are off and two silly, incompetent stagehands do their worst. That’s only the beginning of this award-winning show, which actually caused a woman in one audience to fall from her chair in laughter.
“Afternoon At Tavern MacTavish”: This light comedy shows three gullible American tourists — wife, husband, and their teenage son or daughter — being fleeced in a tourist trap and loving every minute of it.
The play takes place in Scotland, but it could happen (and does) anywhere in the world, including America. The wily tavern owner and his equally conniving wife know every trick, and they enjoy plying their trade. The way they sell two skulls they say came from the same body is priceless. Audiences of all ages will laugh their own skulls off.
Cocktails start at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time, with a plated dinner being served at 6 p.m. If a vegan meal is preferred, call the box office to purchase tickets. For tickets call 877-ISL-SHOW. Tickets are $50.
