KINGSFORD — Monday morning arrived with sunshine and a temperature registering 1 degree. After subzero weather, we could conceivably call this a warming trend.

Garbed in extra layers, the seniors made their way to the meeting. It was a special day, with Barb Reisner and Kathy Novickis bringing news of expansion and innovation at the Imagination Factory Community Center and Children’s Museum.

Chairman Bill Roberts brought the group together for opening ceremonies. Richard Ochoa stood ready to lead the singing while Alyce Derwinski prepared the music. Alyce discovered that 9 a.m. is not a good time to be in line at the post office on a Monday.

As usual, the meeting began with the Golden K senior renditions of some of the good old tunes. The Welcome song greeted guests Kendra Trulock from Dickinson RSVP, as well as Barb Reisner, Kathy Novickis, and Jim Roberts. Happy Birthday wishes went to Chris Beaudry and Lynn LaVigne. Judy Sielaff won the 50-50 drawing and Happy Dollars reflected thoughts of welcome guests and family.

The Imagination Factory is currently closed for remodel and expansion. There are many exciting things happening. Reisner shared news of changes and opportunities in the works. The Factory is morphing into a more vibrant and interactive children and family center. Services and space are being developed for adult and senior activities. It is evolving into a true community center.

The facility will expand to three levels for activities beginning in late March. There will be larger rooms, more activities and new programs. Along with new exhibit rooms, everyone is looking forward to the planned Gus Macker Cafe. They plan to offer healthy breakfast and lunch entrees.

Also in the works are a family resource area, a therapy center and a large room for holding parties and receptions. Even the hallways will become vibrant with new games.

A planned 55 exhibits and 200 activities will be ready for all ages. Bring mom, dad and grandparents, since there will be something for all. One of the special perks offered at the Factory is book given to all children as they exit.

Many have already experienced the museum and what it offered before this move. With more space and three floors of activities geared for all ages, it will become a fun place for children, families and visitors.

Ticket prices start at $7 per person and yearly passes are available. Look for more news in late March.

The success of this center is a culmination of a devoted board dedicated to providing a safe, fun, educational experience for all. Teamwork and support from local business and the community have provided crucial funds. Finally grants and local benefactors have all played a vital part in making this become a reality.

This Monday, the Golden K will be the hosting a Valentine’s party for children with special needs. Club members and anyone wishing to help are welcome at the event. Setup begins at 8:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford.

Starting at $3.50/week.
