SNL star and host of Netflix’s ‘Is It Cake?’ Mikey Day to perform comedy at MTU Winter Carnival

MIKEY DAY

HOUGHTON — You may know him from the satisfying Netflix show “Is It Cake?” or maybe you watched him on Nick Cannon’s MTV comedy series “Wild ‘N Out” for seven seasons.

“Saturday Night Live” cast member Mikey Day will perform stand-up comedy on Friday, Feb. 10, during Michigan Tech’s Winter Carnival. Doors open at 8:15 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. Blue Key National Honor Society and Late Night Programming at MTU are hosting the comedian in the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts.

Guests can expect about 30 minutes of stand-up comedy and 30 minutes of Q&A. The event organizers say the content will include college humor, mature themes and adult language. The cost is $20 for general admission and MTU students get in free.

Day recently completed his sixth season as an “SNL” cast member after joining the show as a writer for the 2013-14 season. During his first season as a cast member, Day gained recognition for his wildly popular “Haunted Elevator (featuring David S. Pumpkins)” sketch with Tom Hanks as well as his Donald Trump Jr. impression.

Day is the host of Netflix’s hit baking contest series “Is It Cake?,” which will return for a second season.

Day was a member of the Groundlings comedy troupe in Los Angeles and a cast member on Nick Cannon’s MTV comedy series “Wild ‘N Out” for seven seasons. He was also a head writer on Cartoon Network’s “Incredible Crew,” co-head writer and cast member on NBC’s “Maya & Marty” and co-writer for the 2016 comedy “Brother Nature.”

Alongside “SNL” writer Streeter Seidell, Day wrote “Home Sweet Home Alone.” The duo is currently writing the Disney reboots of “Inspector Gadget” and “Space Camp,” as well as “The Rugrats Movie” for Nickelodeon/Paramount.

Day’s film credits include “Brittany Runs a Marathon,” the Will Packer-produced comedy “Little,” opposite Issa Rae, the Adam Sandler film “Hubie Halloween” and most recently “Black Adam” starring The Rock. He is currently filming the Jerry Seinfeld film “Unfrosted” for Netflix.

Blue Key was established to organize and coordinate the Michigan Technological University Winter Carnival in a fair and equitable manner to serve the surrounding community.

Late Night Programming at Michigan Tech “is an initiative implemented by student leadership and involvement with the help and support of many student organizations and student leaders.” Entertainment is funded by the Student Activity Fee with additional support from co-sponsorships.

MTU Winter Carnival runs from Feb. 8-13.
