Crystal Theatre announces its 2024 ‘Gem of a Season’

CRYSTAL FALLS -- Crystal Theatre has announced the 12 events that comprise its 2024 "Gem of a Season," extending from April to early November.
The season begins in a big way with a full orchestra Thursday, April 4. The Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra, embarking on a concert tour to Chicago, will make its first stop at Crystal Theatre. In 2021, the KSO earned second place nationally in the American Prize in Music, awarded to the best college orchestras.
On Friday, April 26, Djangophonique will introduce patrons to a unique style of jazz. Named after the European jazz guitarist and composer Django Reinhardt, the award-winning quintet delivers joyful, genuine gypsy jazz.
Ragtime concert pianist Peter Bergin will take the stage Friday, May 24. Appropriate for the Memorial Day weekend, Bergin will present a patriotic program focusing on American musical heritage.
On Friday, June 7, Cameron Blake will display his versatile musical range: high-energy roots rock to classical, world and introspective folk. Blake won a statewide award for "Best Contemporary Folk Album of 2022" with "Mercy for the Gentle Kind."
R.E.M. fans will be treated to the music of the noted rock band Friday, July 12, with a performance by the Dead Letter Office tribute band. Faithfully reproducing the energy of a live R.E.M show, the band fills the void that has existed since the groups split.
The sounds of Simon and Garfunkel will be heard Friday, July 26. AJ Swearingen and Jayne Kelli recreate the music, memories and magic in a true tribute to the most famous folk-rock duo of their time.
Returning to Crystal Theatre on Friday, Aug. 16, 27 talented Tamburitzans will bid farewell to summer by escorting the audience across the globe in two hours of song and dance. Now in its 87th season, the Disney-influenced Tamburitzens are the longest-running live stage show.
A Fungus Fest weekend show that promises to get toes tapping or people up and dancing will be announced soon.
On Friday, Sept. 6, the highly acclaimed Brass Roots Trio will demonstrate how three instruments can create symphonic sounds like a small orchestra. Classical by intent and eclectic by content, the trio's programs take unexpected twists and turns.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, Rosie and the Rivets will perform an electrifying female-fronted tribute to the formative years of rock 'n' roll. With period correct wardrobe, hair and makeup, along with vintage instruments and microphones, patrons are in for a truly retro-cool experience.
The Seth Brown Duo will accompany the colorful falling leaves Friday, Oct. 11. Seth and Desiree Brown are a married couple, dreamers, and full-time storytelling musicians who speak through upbeat Americana roots music.
WOR will return to Crystal Theatre as the final "Gem of a Season" event Saturday, Nov. 2. The five musicians use an unusual combination of instruments to inject new energy into 18th-century melodies from the Flanders region of Belgium. Their music shines an inventive spotlight, with a modern twist, on these old manuscripts.
