Northern Lights Master Gardeners spring plant sale set

MARINETTE, Wis. – The annual Spring Plant Sale fundraiser by the Northern Lights Master Gardeners Association Inc. will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 16, at Harmony Arboretum.

The sale will feature a wide selection of plants grown and donated by members of NLMGAI. Plants at Harmony ready to be divided will also be available for sale and will be dug during the plant sale. This year’s offerings include perennials, herbs, native plants and house plants. All proceeds go toward public educational programs, such as this year’s free children’s events, and improvements to facilitate learning at Harmony Arboretum.

This year, the Wild River Invasive Species Coalition will be collecting invasive plants at Harmony during their plant sale. Members of the community will be able to drop off invasive plants removed from their own property and receive a voucher for $10 per invasive plant, up to $100 per person. Vouchers can then be used to purchase native plants at the NLMGAI Plant Sale or at other locations partnering with WRISC. For more information about the Invasive Species Trade Up Days, go to https://www.wrisc.org/events.

Many members of NLMGAI will be available to provide insight into growing and designing outdoor living spaces, as well as recommending plants that would work in those spaces.

While at Harmony Arboretum, children and adults can take advantage of exploring the Children’s Learning Garden or admiring the demonstration gardens, the orchard, the prairie and Harmony hardwoods. Many nature and education programs appealing to children and adults are conducted throughout the spring, summer and fall months.

Northern Lights Master Gardeners maintain the Demonstration Gardens at Harmony Arboretum and conduct horticultural education programs for the public. The public is welcome to join the Northern Lights Master Gardeners Association Inc. to learn more about horticulture and to assist members in educating the public.

Harmony Arboretum is a 496-acre former “county farm” that has been developed into a conservation and horticulture education and demonstration area. It is always open to the public and free.
