Iron Mountain/Kingsford Branch of AAUW now accepting applications for scholarships
IRON MOUNTAIN — American Association of University Women Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch has announced they are accepting applications for their Traditional and Eleanor M. Hoeffler Scholarships.
AAUW is an organization whose mission is to promote equality for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change. In support of this mission, the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch of AAUW is offering two different scholarships for local high school seniors.
The Traditional Scholarship is being offered to female high school seniors from Florence, Forest Park, Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Niagara, North Dickinson, Norway, Pembine, or West Iron County high schools. Applications are available at each school’s guidance office.
The applicant must be accepted by an accredited four-year college or university and enrolled in a four-year or more program of studies. (Note: Proof of acceptance may be required prior to distribution of scholarship funds.) The applicant must be in good scholastic standing.
Scholarship recipients will be selected based on the following criteria: written essay, community and school activities and honors, scholarship and class standing. Two scholarship winners will be chosen and the amount of each scholarship will be $500.
Applicants are to complete the application and essay, which must be postmarked by March 20, and mailed to: Emily Ritsema, Attn: AAUW Scholarship, Woodland Elementary School, 2000 Pyle Dr., Kingsford, MI 49802. The scholarship winners will be contacted by the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch of AAUW and will be invited to attend our annual Awards meeting on May 23 at 6:45 p.m.

The Eleanor M. Hoeffler Scholarship, established in 1987, is being offered to high school senior girls or boys from Iron Mountain or Kingsford who will pursue studies in communications, performing arts, or English language arts. Applications are available at each school’s guidance office.
The applicant must be a senior from Iron Mountain or Kingsford. He/she must be accepted by an accredited four-year college or university and enrolled in a four-year or more program of studies. The applicant must be in good scholastic standing and majoring in communications, performing arts, or English language arts.
The scholarship recipient will be selected based on the following criteria: written essay, community and school activities and honors, scholarship and class standing. One scholarship winner will be chosen for this $500 scholarship.
