Local churches to offer free oil changes

Iron Mountain — The next area Car Care Clinic will take place Sept. 30.

The event is organized and supported by First United Methodist Church, Quinnesec United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, Norway Grace United Methodist Church, Abundant Life, Maranatha Assembly of God, First Covenant of Iron Mountain, and other area churches,

The focus of this outreach is to help those in need with basic car maintenance, especially single parents with limited money or resources.

The event is expected to provide free oil changes and a general maintenance inspection for more than 50 vehicles.

NAPA Auto Parts of Kingsford has agreed to support the event by discounting the cost of the needed automotive supplies. Registered participants are asked to pick up the proper oil filter for their vehicle before the event. After participants confirm their appointment, oil filters are available at no additional cost for most vehicles at NAPA in Kingsford. Discount wiper blades and air filters are available as well for most participating vehicles. The staff at NAPA is ready to help individuals choose the correct parts.

Participants in return are asked to donate canned goods for local food pantries. They should bring their canned goods with them the day of the appointment.

A Facebook page is available to connect volunteers and “customers,” and gives them a place to share their stories online. Search for “Iron Mountain Area Christian Ministry Car Care Clinic” or go to http://www.facebook.com/IMCarCareClinic.

Appointments are required to have vehicles serviced. A limited number of time slots are available. Those who wish to schedule an appointment should call 906-282-5860. Registration deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Starting at $3.50/week.
