Flamenco dancer at Crystal Theatre

Crystal Falls — The Crystal Theatre will host award-winning flamenco dancer Karyne Arys at 7 p.m. Saturday as part of the Pine Mountain Music Festival.

The flamenco dance makes its debut in the festival. The genre of flamenco music has about 25 important rhythms that correspond to different dances — bulerias, fandango, tientos, tangos. It is a highly complicated dance form that traces back to gypsy campfires.

Creator of Le Studio Flamenco in Bordeaux, France, Arys brings athleticism and artistry to this ancient Spanish dance and music form, joined by Paul Buttin on flamenco guitar and Kahlil Sabbagh on cajón, a box-shaped percussion instrument originally from Peru.

Arys is a flamenco dancer in Bordeaux at the Théâtre Trianon. As choreographer and solo dancer, she has consistently created an original work every year.

As a young dancer, Arys won first prize in ballet at the Orléans National Conservatoire, and gained acclaim as dancer/choreographer in Paris for her modernistic interpretation of folk dances.
