‘Robotic Arms’ event Saturday at Dickinson County Library

IRON MOUNTAIN –Upcoming events at the Dickinson County Library include:

Saturday

— Odyssey Seekers Club: Robotic Arms, 2 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Kids in third through eighth grades will learn how to build a miniature robotic hand/arm with simple, everyday materials. Directions will be provided.

Monday

— National Novel Writing Month, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

National Novel Writing Month challenges everyone to write 50,000 words during the month. The library will provide pencils and paper and allow authors to have the perfect quiet space to scribble away. For more information on National Novel Writing Month, go to www.nanowrimo.org.

Tuesday, Nov. 20

— Directed Discussions, 10 a.m. to noon at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Directed Discussions is an opportunity to speak with Library Director Megan Buck in an open forum. Stop by to say hello and bring questions, suggestions, or concerns regarding library services. No appointment is necessary.

— Family Storytime, 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Preschool storytimes are an excellent opportunity to learn about early literacy practices to use when reading together at home.

Wednesday, Nov. 21

— Family Storytime, 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library-Solomonson Branch in Norway.

— All library sites will close at 5 p.m. for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thursday, Nov. 22

— All site closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Friday, Nov. 23

— Normal hours resume at all sites.

Saturday, Nov. 24

— North Dickinson Holiday Bazaar, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the North Dickinson School.

The library will have a table at the annual Holiday Bazaar, complete with information, a make-n-take craft for kids and library card sign-ups. If signing up for a card, bring an ID and be aware that kids younger than age 18 need to have a signature from their responsible adult.

Monday, Nov. 26

— National Novel Writing Month, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Tuesday, Nov. 27

— Reading is a Hoot Storytime, 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

This preschool storytime is for the birds, as children learn all about owls. The program includes owl facts, puppets and the felt board for visuals, songs, and an owl craft. Preschool storytimes are an excellent opportunity to learn about early literacy practices.

— Page by Page Book Club, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

The Page by Page book selection is chosen at each month’s meeting for the upcoming month, so attend the program to cast a vote.  The selection will be advertised on the library’s website, www.dcl-lib.org/pbpbookclub, which also has reading guides and past selections. New members are always welcome.
