Scholarships available

IRON MOUNTAIN — American Association of University Women Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch is accepting applications for its Traditional and Eleanor M. Hoeffler scholarships.

AAUW is an organization with the mission to promote equality for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change. In support of this mission, the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch of AAUW is offering two different scholarships for local high school seniors.

The Traditional Scholarship is for female senior students from Florence, Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Niagara, North Dickinson or Norway high schools. Applications are available at each school’s counseling office and may be downloaded at https://ironmountainkingsford-mi.aauw.net/branch-scholarship-information/

The applicant must be accepted by an accredited four-year college or university and enrolled in a four-year or more program of studies. Note that proof of acceptance may be required before distribution of scholarship funds. The applicant must be in good scholastic standing.

Scholarship recipients will be selected based on: written essay, community and school activities and honors, and a minimum grade-point average of 3.0. Two winners will be chosen and the amount of each scholarship will be $1,000.

The Eleanor M. Hoeffler Scholarship, established in 1987, is available to high school senior girls or boys from Iron Mountain or Kingsford who will pursue studies in communications, performing arts, visual arts or English. Applications are available at each school’s guidance office and can be downloaded at https://ironmountainkingsford-mi.aauw.net/branch-scholarship-information/

Applicants must be seniors from Iron Mountain or Kingsford. They must be accepted by an accredited four-year college or university and enrolled in a four-year or more program of studies. The applicant must be in good scholastic standing and majoring in communications, performing arts, visual arts or English.

The scholarship recipient will be selected based on these criteria: written essay, community and school activities and honors, and a minimum grade-point average of 3.0. One winner will be chosen for this $500 scholarship.

Applicants for the Traditional and Hoeffler scholarships should complete the application and essay, which must be scanned and emailed to: AAUW Scholarship Committee, imkaauwscholarship@gmail.com. Applications are due by March 23.

The scholarship winners will be contacted by the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch of AAUW and will be invited to attend the annual awards meeting at 6:45 p.m. May 21.
