Day of Prayer event planned

CRIVITZ, Wis. — Northwood’s Apostolic Church will observe the National Day of Prayer at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the John Schaffer Pavilion in Crivitz, Wis.

This year’s National Day of Prayer theme is “Love One Another.”

The Continental Congress had the first National Day of Prayer in 1775 when they asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming the nation. In 1863, President Lincoln proclaimed a day of “humiliation, fasting and prayer.”

In 1952, a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Truman, declared an annual National Day of Prayer. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, which set the first Thursday in May to be a National Day of Prayer.
