THE REV. TIMOTHY EKAITIS of St. Mary Church in Norway encourages competition for the James “Harvey” Moore Memorial Volleyball Tournament on June 2 to benefit Holy Spirit Catholic School. The Thirsty Whale, which hosts the event in Norway, is taking team registrations.

NORWAY — The James “Harvey” Moore Memorial Volleyball Tournament to benefit Holy Spirit Catholic School will start at noon June 2 at The Thirsty Whale, 825 U.S. 2 in Norway.

Those who knew “Harvey” were aware of his love for children, giving back to the community and sports. He had the ability to light up a room just by walking in. For years, he loved playing volleyball at The Thirsty Whale. He asked proprietor Paula Pieropon, “Who’s the oldest player in the league?” She laughed and told him, “It’s been you for years!”

Players are invited to come out in Harvey’s honor and take part in this co-ed six volleyball tournament. Registration is a minimum $75 per team, but participants are encouraged to secure additional sponsors in $75 increments. The team with the most sponsors will win a free meal at The Thirsty Whale.

Youth competitions for special prizes are planned as well.

The event also will have drawings for baskets and a 50/50. The baskets can be viewed from 7:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the school and on the Holy Spirit Catholic School’s Facebook pages.

Raffle tickets will be available at Holy Spirit School, as well as before and after Mass at St. Mary’s and St. Barbara’s churches Saturday and Sunday, plus June 1.

All are welcome to this family-friendly event. Food available will include hot dogs, brats, turkey dressing sandwiches, pulled pork, chips, soda and adult beverages.
