‘Cinderella’ performances planned this weekend

EMILY MIZINIAK

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson Ballet Company and Northern Michigan Dance Academy will present the ballet “Cinderella” at the Braumart Theatre in downtown Iron Mountain.

Performances will be 7:30 p.m. Friday; and 1 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Northern Michigan Dance Academy features Emily M. Miziniak, a senior at Iron Mountain High School, as its Senior Spotlight.

Miziniak is the daughter of Kaye and Philip Miziniak II of Iron Mountain. She has been dancing at Northern Michigan Dance Academy for 13 years.

Along with her involvement in dance, she is valedictorian of her class, two-year member of the IMHS Honor Society and an IMHS Academic Excellence award winner.

Miziniak also has been in Youth Advisory Committee, or YAC; student council; Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District Graphic Communications Advisory Board; Tri-Hi-;, and is the 2019 class president.

Outside of school, she volunteered as a tutor at Bishop Baraga Catholic School and was chosen to be in the OAKE National Women’s Choir three times.

She plans to attend the honors program at St. Norbert College.

The public is invited to see Miziniak in “Cinderella.” The ballet is a classic tale of the kind-hearted Cinderella and how her cruel stepmother and stepsisters forbid her from attending the Royal Ball, where all of the fair maidens in the kingdom will vie to become Prince Charming’s betrothed.

Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother appears, transforming her shabby rags into an elegant gown and exquisite slippers, making it possible for her to also attend the ball. She warns Cinderella the magic spell will be broken at midnight. At the ball, the prince and Cinderella fall in love but as the clock strikes midnight, she leaves in haste, losing one of her slippers.

The Prince searches for this mysterious girl who has captured his heart. Finally finding her, he easily slips the shoe onto Cinderella’s foot and meets his true love.

Tickets can be purchased at www.braumart.org; from 3 to 6 p.m. today, Wednesday and Thursday at the Braumart Theatre box office; or at the door.
