CRYSTAL FALLS — The Crystal Falls Lions Club had another successful dinner to honor the 2019 Citizens of the Year selections, Jeff and Staria Syrjanen.

The Syrjanens have been very involved in Crystal Falls for more than 35 years. Celebrating with the Syrjanens was their son, Lee; their daughter, Joy; and Jeff’s mother, Josephine.

The head table also included Lions President Joy Fredericks and Mistress of Ceremonies Denise “Sis” Marten. The dinner drew 111 people wanting to show their appreciation for what these two Citizens of the Year mean to the community.

A proclamation was presented to the Syrjanens by Girard Valesano, representing the City of Crystal Falls, as well as the Lions Club. Several other guests present, also offered some nice remarks in appreciation of the Syrjanens.

The Lions Club is especially happy to have the Syrjanens in the community because of all they have done for the club over the past several years. They have been very helpful with the Bass Festival activities, including the Run Your Bass Off race.
