Legion celebrating 100 years

The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 at 916 River Ave. in Iron Mountain invites the community to a special event Thursday after the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Fourth of July parade. In celebration of the American Legion 100th anniversary, the post will bring back the old Red Owl Grocery Store tradition of handing out free miniature flags, as well as hot dogs and ice cream to all children 12 and younger. In addition, they will have live music by Ric Stream for a festive family afternoon. Post members will sell hot dogs, brats, burgers and refreshments at discount prices. A special cake also will be served at no charge. The front of the legion will be blocked off to foot traffic only, with tables and chairs set up. In case of rain, the event will be in the legion hall. From left are Emmitt Hoyt, Post 50 Commander Jim Richards, Easton Hoyt and Terry Burgess, committee chairman.
