Names in the News – Marquette University lists names of spring graduates

IRON MOUNTAIN — Several students from the region recently earned a degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Students received their diplomas May 19 at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee during the 138th annual commencement ceremony.

David Brooks, the New York Times best-selling author and political commentator, was the commencement speaker. As part of the commencement ceremony, he received an honorary doctor of letters degree.

Jacob Zelinski was the student speaker and the first-ever recipient of the James Foley Scholarship. A full video of the ceremony is online.

Albion College has named these local students to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester, for maintaining a 3.5 or higher grade-point average while taking a full course load:

Olivia Lorenzoni of Iron Mountain, the daughter of Jon and Elizabeth Lorenzoni of Iron Mountain, is a sophomore and is a member of the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program. She is a Kingsford High School graduate.

Madeline Ryan, the daughter of Adam and Kristy Ryan of Iron Mountain, is a first-year student and is a member of the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program. Ryan also is a Kingsford High School graduate.

To be included, students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

A pound sign indicates a student who earned university honors, finishing in the top 2 percent of their college or school.

Asterisks indicate those earning straight-A averages of 4.0.

Connor Ortman, a freshman from Norway, was among nearly 300 students named to the dean’s list at Lakeland University of Plymouth Wis., for academic achievement for the 2018-2019 fall semester.

To earn recognition on the dean’s list, undergraduate students must carry a full-time schedule of at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.5 grade-point average.

Ortman, the son of Steve and Amy Ortman, is majoring in sports management.

Britta Grayvold, a Norway High School graduation, was named to the dean’s list at the Milwaukee School of Engineering for the 2019 spring quarter.

She is studying for a bachelor of science in user experience and communication design.

Undergraduate students who have earned at least 30 credits and have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher (out of 4.0) are on the dean’s list. Students who have maintained a 3.70 or higher receive high honors.

Undergraduate students on the honors list have earned a grade-point average of at least 3.20 out of 4.0 for this quarter.

Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis., has named Kira Mautone from Iron Mountain to its dean’s list for academic excellence during the spring 2019 semester.

Dean’s list honors are students who achieve a minimum 3.5 grade-point average while carrying at least 14 credit hours during a semester, accorded to Carthage College.
