CRYSTAL FALLS — As part of the Gem of a Season Series, Crystal Theatre on Sunday will feature The Johnsons’ Bluegrass Band from Foster City.

The JBB is a sibling band, all under 25 years old. They pair artistic, original songwriting with fresh chords, plentiful harmonies and lots of energy — and having lots of fun doing their part to keep Bluegrass alive and flourishing. JBB takes the stage at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Sisters Hannah and Lydia Johnson take the lead in presenting JBB’s original and traditional bluegrass and gospel music. Hannah, mandolinist and lead singer, writes many of the group’s songs and plays guitar. Lydia plays violin. Her rhythmic, new-twist-on-an-old-sound fiddle tunes are always popular with listeners. She sings tenor harmony vocals as well.

Simon is a guest, playing lead guitar on several of their songs and is featured on their CD as well. He is considered a phenomenal guitarist — and not just for his age — earning praise for his perfect up-and-down-the-neck imitations of Ricky Skaggs, Bryan Sutton and other great Nashville guitarists, as well as hot riffs on the spot when he takes a solo on stage.

Brothers Ethan and Daniel, on bass and guitar respectively, are solid musicians as well. Daniel, Hannah and Lydia also sing family trio harmonies.

The JBB has released a CD, “Cloudy in Kentucky,” with all songs written by the band. The CD features banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, harmonies, a cappella songs and more. It will be available at the band’s Crystal Theatre performance.

Tickets are available at www.TheCrystalTheatre.org, the Iron County Chamber of Commerce, the Ben Franklin store in Crystal Falls and The Music Tree in Iron Mountain.
