Lumberjack Steam Train ready for Fall Festival

On Oct. 5, the cowboys will rob the Lumberjack Steam Train as part of the Fall Festival at Camp 5 Museum Complex in Laona, Wis.

LAONA, Wis. — Autumn is one of the nicest times to ride the Lumberjack Steam Train. The colors are vibrant, the air is cool and Ol’ 4-Spot will be chugging and waiting at the vintage depot on Highway 8 on Laona’s west side.

The Lumberjack Steam Train will be running at Fall Festival on Saturday as well as Sept. 28, and Oct. 5. Passengers will embark for the Camp 5 Museum Complex in Laona, Wis.

The logging museum gives a great insight into what life was like logging and sawmilling in the early 1900s, with a great display of equipment and vintage photos. Camp 5 also has a working blacksmith shop. The petting zoo is great for children, but adults have been known to linger with the animals as well.

The Green Treasure Forest Tour is an entertaining and educational trip through a sustained-yield forest.

The Cracker Barrel Gift Store will be open with unique gifts, books, fudge and ice cream.

Children enjoy the petting zoo at the complex.

A trip through the Nature Center is unique, and to get in the mood for Halloween, visit the Haunted Slaughterhouse.

Don’t forget to “get lost” in the corn maze and, if you have a drone, there are great aerial photos to be taken.

The Choo Choo Hut Restaurant is ready with lunch.

The train leaves the depot on Highway 8, just west of Laona, at 10 a.m. and every hour on the hour until the last run at 1 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the depot.

The cowboys will visit Camp 5 on Oct. 5, and will rob the Lumberjack Special on every trip to the Camp 5 complex. These guys blaze away with vintage guns and look tough and dangerous, but don’t worry, they are shooting blanks. Visitors can talk with these desperadoes and the good guys trying to keep them in check.
