KINGSFORD — Kingsford High School senior Kate Cook has been selected by her classmates as this year’s National Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s Good Citizen Representative for the Onagomingkway Chapter. Kate is the daughter of Dale and Kimberly Cook of Kingsford.

The DAR Good Citizen Award is presented to one student who to an outstanding degree demonstrates qualities of dependability, which includes truthfulness, loyalty and punctuality; service, which includes cooperation, courtesy and consideration of others; leadership, which includes personality, self-control and ability to assume responsibility; and patriotism, which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation.

Cook has a remarkable academic record, consistently being listed on the honor roll and having received an academic letter. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club. Cook is part of the high school band and jazz band, where she has served as a squad leader for three years and section leader for one year. She also is active in volleyball, basketball and golf, earning a varsity letter in all three sports.

After graduating from Kingsford High School, she plans to attend college next fall to pursue a law degree.

DAR Good Citizens who enter the scholarship contest are eligible for awards beyond the chapter level. Each state winner receives at least $250, a special state DAR Good Citizen pin and a certificate. Each of the 16 national division winners will receive a $500 cash award. Two national winners will be invited to Washington, D.C. to attend Continental Congress and will be awarded $5,000 scholarships, inscribed silver bowls and certificates.
