Caregivers workshop to start

IRON MOUNTAIN — Creating Confident Caregivers is a new program offered in parts of Michigan for family caregivers of people with dementia and/or memory loss. The six-week workshop will meet from 2 until 4 p.m. Wednesdays starting Jan. 15 at the Dickinson Iron Community Services Agency, 1238 Carpenter Ave. in Iron Mountain.

Creating Confident Caregivers is led by trained dementia care specialists. This university-tested program provides participants with information, skills and attitudes to manage stress and increase their effectiveness as a caregiver.

The program is offered in part by the U.P. Area Agency on Aging and the Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress, or UPCAP. There is no charge to participants for the sessions or materials and respite care may be available through participating area agencies while caregivers attend the workshop.

Those interested in the workshop can contact UPCAP by dialing 211 or going online to www.upcap.org.
