Kingsford Middle School students decorate community Christmas tree

KINGSFORD — Some seventh-grade students and an eighth-grade student from Kingsford Middle School turned out last month to hang ornaments on the Kingsford City Hall tree.

KMS students had painted and/or illustrated a couple hundred wooden and pinecone ornaments to be a part of the tree-lighting ceremony Dec. 9 that had to be canceled due to inclement weather.

The high school art class made a light-up tree topper, and artwork from a couple of younger classes from Woodland Elementary was displayed on the walls inside City Hall as well.

Event organizers would like to thank the Dickinson County Library; all Kingsford businesses, especially CJ Graphics; Monette’s; Kingsford Public Safety; The Dance Academy; and all citizens who showed a vested interest in spreading a sense of community in Kingsford.

“We wanted this to be the first annual celebration with hopes of it growing in the years to come; however, weather rained — or rather snowed — on our parade both days that we were going to attempt to make this happen; sub-zero temperatures froze our attempts for a Wednesday celebration,” according to a press release.

Organizers plan to arrange a meeting at city hall to begin planning dates and activities for the Parade of Lights 2020.
