Celello to speak at AAUW meeting

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch of American Association of University Women will have its monthly meeting Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Pine Grove Country Club.

The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m.

The program will begin at 6:45 p.m. and feature author Erin Celello, speaking about the current state of women in writing and publishing, the problem of “women’s fiction,” and what readers can do to influence this landscape. A short business meeting will follow the program.

Celello is the author of the novels “Miracle Beach” and “Learning to Stay,” which recently was adapted for the stage and performed in both Madison, Wis., and New York City.

She is an associate professor of creative writing at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Raised in the Iron Mountain and Kingsford area, Celello has a master of fine arts degree in fiction from Northern Michigan University and currently lives in Madison with her husband, two young sons, a neurotic vizsla and a one-eyed cat.

The meal includes salad, tomato bisque soup, and a plate of turkey and ham sandwiches on wheat berry bread and carrot cake. Cost of the meal is $13 without dessert and $16.50 with dessert. Beverages may be purchased in the bar area.
